چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant it is now used in diseases associated with oxidative stress. Given the importance of oxidative stress in the complications of diabetes, this study aimed to investigate the effect of CoQ10 supplementation on the status of oxidative stress and insulin resistance was performed in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: 18 Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=6). The control group received the physiological serum, the diabetic group (STZ: 55 mg/kg) received sesame oil, and the supplement group, which was diabetic, received Q10 intraperitoneal (i.p) at a dose of 2 mg/kg per day for 10 days. At the end of the tenth day, a venous blood sample was collected. Plasma levels of glucose, insulin, vitamin D, total antioxidant capacity, malondialdehyde (MDA), and protein thiol groups were measured using the corresponding colorimetric methods. Results:  The results showed that treatment of diabetic rats with CoQ10 supplementation significantly reduced fasting blood sugar (FBS) and MDA levels and significantly increased serum insulin and vitamin D levels compared to diabetic rats (P < 0.05).The Average weight, thiol groups, insulin resistance, and total antioxidant capacity in the treated diabetic ratios with CoQ10 supplementation varied compared with the diabetic control group but were not significant (p >0.05). Conclusion: Consumption of CoQ10 supplementation can reduce the oxidative stress caused by diabetes through its antioxidant effects.

Effect of coenzyme Q10 on radiation-induced fatigue in rats

Background: Fatigue is a common side effect in cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy (RT). Radiation-induced fatigue affects the quality of life, but there is no definitive treatment option. In this study, the weight-loaded forced swim test was performed to assess the effect of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) on radiation-induced fatigue. Materials and Methods: A total of 60 rats were divided rando...

Magnesium supplementation enhances insulin sensitivity and decreases insulin resistance in diabetic rats

Objective(s): Diabetes mellitus has been suggested to be the most common metabolic disorder associated with magnesium deficiency. This study aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of magnesium supplementation on insulin receptor activity in elderly type 2 diabetes using a rat model and to provide experimental evidence for insulin resistance improvement by magn...

The effect of resistance exercise on oxidative stress in cardiac and skeletal muscle tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Abstract Background and Objective: It has been shown that oxidative stress increases in diabetes and it has an important role in its development and subsequent complications. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of acute resistance exercise on oxidative stress in skeletal muscle and cardiac tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Twenty male ...

Tissue-specific Effect of Coenzyme Q10 Supplementation on the Oxidative Post-translational Modifications in the Rat

Results: Supplementation of CoQ10 for thirteen weeks in adult animals resulted in decreased protein carbonyls due to oxidative posttranslational modifications in the plasma (approximately 21%) but an increase of the same in the brain tissue homogenate (approximately 21%) was observed. These alterations were statistically significant in the former while the increase in the latter was statistical...
